An Easy Ride Through Craigburn Farm

Valley Road is one of the gentler trails in the Sturt Gorge Recreation Park’s Craigburn Farm network — a 2.5-kilometre route that follows the valley floor through grassland and open woodland, providing an accessible option for walkers and cyclists who want to experience the park without the more demanding terrain of the surrounding ridge trails. The trail offers views across the valley and through the revegetation areas that are transforming former farmland back into native habitat.

The Craigburn Farm addition to Sturt Gorge Recreation Park has created a significant recreational resource on Adelaide’s southern fringe. The valley through which this trail runs provides a natural corridor connecting different sections of the park, and the ongoing revegetation work is slowly rebuilding the grey box grassy woodland that once covered these slopes.

The Trail

The trail follows the valley through the Craigburn Farm section, offering a flat to gently undulating route that contrasts with the steeper trails on the surrounding ridges. The easy rating makes it suitable for families, casual cyclists, and walkers of all fitness levels. The trail connects with the broader Sturt Gorge network, including Sidewinder, Gunners Run, and other trails, allowing riders and walkers to build outings of varying length and difficulty.
