Guided Walking Tours

Walk the Yorke is a 500km trail circumnavigating the entire Yorke Peninsula — one of South Australia’s great long-distance trail achievements. The trail passes through Innes National Park, along dramatic coastal cliffs, through historic copper mining towns, and across the agricultural heart of the peninsula. Guided sections allow visitors to experience highlights without committing to the full distance.

  • Big Heart Adventures – Yorke Peninsula Walking Tours — Guided walks on the Yorke Peninsula, focusing on the most spectacular sections of the Walk the Yorke trail and Innes National Park coastline. Small-group tours with experienced guides combining coastal walking with the peninsula’s natural and cultural history.

Cycling Tours

The Yorke Peninsula’s relatively flat terrain and quiet country roads make it well-suited to cycling. The Copper Coast section of the peninsula, connecting Kadina, Wallaroo, and Moonta — the historic “Triangle Towns” of the copper rush era — offers a particularly interesting cycling route through heritage streetscapes and coastal scenery.

  • Copper Coast Heritage Cycling — Self-guided cycling through the Copper Coast’s Triangle Towns is popular with heritage enthusiasts. The towns retain significant 19th-century Cornish mining architecture, and cycling between them allows visitors to explore at their own pace. Bike hire is available in the region.

Diving & Marine Experiences

The Yorke Peninsula has world-class marine experiences. Edithburgh Tidal Pool is a popular family snorkelling spot, and the waters around Innes National Park and the Copper Coast offer excellent reef diving. The annual cuttlefish aggregation near Whyalla (technically just off the peninsula in upper Spencer Gulf) is one of the world’s great natural spectacles.

  • Innes National Park Coastal Snorkelling — The sheltered bays around Pondalowie Bay and Cape Spencer within Innes National Park offer excellent snorkelling with accessible reef systems. Best experienced in summer when water visibility is highest.

About the Yorke Peninsula for Guided Tours

The Yorke Peninsula is South Australia’s “boot” — a distinctive three-pronged landform between Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent. The peninsula is approximately 200km long and covers diverse landscapes from the productive cereal-growing farmland of the north to the rugged national park coastline of the southern tip at Innes.

Innes National Park at the southern tip protects dramatic coastal scenery including sea caves, blowholes, shipwrecks, and the historic ruins of Inneston — a former gypsum mining town. The park’s trails are some of the most scenic on the peninsula and are a highlight of the Walk the Yorke trail.

Planning Tips

Getting there: The Yorke Peninsula is 2-3 hours from Adelaide by road. Ardrossan and Minlaton are common entry points, with Innes National Park at the southern tip being the main destination for walkers.

Walk the Yorke: The 500km trail can be walked in sections — the Innes National Park section and the Copper Coast section are the most popular standalone walks. Detailed maps and trail notes are available from the Walk the Yorke website.

Spring wildflowers: The Yorke Peninsula has exceptional wildflower displays in August–October, making spring the best time for coastal walks. Innes National Park and the road reserves along the southern peninsula are particularly spectacular.
