Guided Wildlife & Day Tours
Kangaroo Island is renowned for its wildlife — sea lions, koalas, echidnas, kangaroos, and diverse birdlife live in close proximity to visitors throughout the island. Guided day and nocturnal tours offer access to wildlife encounters that self-drive visitors often miss.
- Kangaroo Island Trails – Scenic & Wildlife Adventures — A locally operated tour company specialising in scenic and wildlife experiences across the island. Offers day tours and multi-day itineraries covering Flinders Chase National Park, Seal Bay, Cape Willoughby, and the KI Wilderness Trail. Knowledgeable local guides with a focus on wildlife and conservation.
- KI Guide – Day & Nocturnal Tours — Flexible small-group day tours and unique nocturnal wildlife tours. Nocturnal tours offer a rare chance to observe KI’s native wildlife at night — short-beaked echidnas, possums, bandicoots, and southern brown bandicoots are regularly spotted. Tours tailored to visitor interests and schedule.

About Kangaroo Island for Guided Tours
Kangaroo Island sits 13km off the Fleurieu Peninsula and covers 4,400 square kilometres — making it Australia’s third-largest island. Around one third of the island is protected as national park or conservation reserve, giving it an extraordinary concentration of wildlife and wild coastline.
The island gained international attention after the 2019-20 bushfires, which burned around half of Flinders Chase National Park. Recovery has been significant, and the KI Wilderness Trail now passes through a landscape of remarkable regeneration alongside unburnt pockets of old-growth vegetation — making it a genuinely unique walking experience.

Planning Tips
Getting to KI: The Sealink ferry from Cape Jervis (1hr drive from Adelaide) is the main way to get vehicles to the island. SeaLink also operates a passenger-only service. Some tour operators depart from Adelaide and include the ferry crossing.
Best time to visit: KI is accessible year-round. Spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May) offer the most comfortable walking temperatures. Summer can be warm but wildlife is active year-round.
Wilderness Trail bookings: The KI Wilderness Trail requires advance booking for campsites — book through the SA National Parks website. Most guided operators handle all bookings as part of their package.
Where to stay: See our Kangaroo Island accommodation guide for stays near the trails and wildlife areas.
