Where Camping Meets Diving

Rapid Bay Campground sits on the foreshore of a sheltered bay on the Fleurieu Peninsula’s western coast, directly adjacent to the old Rapid Bay jetty — widely regarded as the best shore dive in South Australia. The jetty’s pylons are home to leafy sea dragons, giant cuttlefish, and a kaleidoscope of reef fish, making this campground uniquely appealing to divers and snorkellers.

The campground offers grassy sites with views across the bay to the limestone cliffs beyond. Facilities include toilets, cold showers, and BBQs. The bay itself provides safe swimming in calm conditions, and the boat ramp gives access to fishing and diving spots along the coast. The Second Valley walking trail connects north along the coastline.

Planning Your Stay

Rapid Bay is located approximately 90 kilometres south of Adelaide via Main South Road. The campground is managed by the local council and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, though bookings may be required during peak periods. The bay is most popular with divers during the giant cuttlefish aggregation season (May–August).
